About Me:
I’m German-American – both my parents are German but I was born and grew up in New Jersey/New York in the United States. I have now been living in Milan, Italy for 15 years with my Italian husband and our two teenage sons.
My academic and professional experience is in international reproductive health and development. I have lived, worked, and consulted in Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa for 20+ years with university research centers, NGOs, UN and US government agencies on expanding women’s contraceptive choice, improving access/quality of family planning services, safe abortion, HIV/AIDS treatment, strengthening monitoring/evaluation skills of program managers and policy-makers, and successful scale-up in the public sector.
IWL has helped me lead with my true authentic self in my personal and professional life and find a more satisfying work-life balance after having re-invented myself as wife and mother living in a foreign country. I am inspired by the life stories of all the incredible women I’ve met through IWL and strive to continue to set an example and mentor other women to lead with their best authentic selves.
Motto/Statement:
Motto: “Do not go where the path may lead. Instead, go where there is no path and leave a trail.”
My vision, which meshes with that of IWL, is to make a difference, have a positive impact on the lives of others, be that my kids, my family, or other women. Continue to transform myself and others for the greater good. Fight for what I believe is right and just.
Hobbies & Interests:
Staying active with my family, whether mountain biking, hiking, running, playing tennis, skiing, swimming, or enjoying outdoor adventures in wild and beautiful settings. Other hobbies/interests include: Ashtanga yoga, ecospirituality, reading, arts & crafts, and playing the piano.
